Looks Like A Good Man
The Black Statement
For: Evening wedding / milestone birthday / premium party
Relaxed enough to feel contemporary, but the tonal handwork gives it enough presence for a room where everybody has made an effort. Black on black is the safest way to be the most interesting man there.
- Colour
- Black on black
- Cloth
- Fine wool-blend kaftan with tonal beadwork and an embellished long coat
- Cut
- Coat below the knee over a hip-length kaftan
- Detail
- Tonal beadwork down the coat front
Indicative UK market range: £850–£1,400
On your frame
- Broad / muscular — Keep the coat open and unstructured through the chest — the length carries it, not the shoulder.
- Tall and lean — Lengthen the coat rather than widening it, and keep the beadwork to the placket so the body does not read narrower.
- Compact — Take the coat to mid-calf at most and keep the kaftan hem straight; a full-length coat eats height.
- Fuller figure — Ask for a straight-cut kaftan with no waist seam and let the coat hang open — the vertical line does the work.
