The Brown Agbada
For: Nigerian wedding, as a guest who does not want to outshine the groom
Deep chocolate rather than the usual navy or white-and-gold, with tonal embroidery only. It reads ceremonial from ten feet and quiet from three — which is exactly what a guest should want.
- Colour
- Deep chocolate brown
- Cloth
- Soft-drape polished cotton with tonal machine embroidery
- Cut
- Outer to mid-calf
- Detail
- Tonal embroidery held to the centre panel
Indicative UK market range: £600–£1,100
On your frame
- Broad / muscular — Soft cloth only, and deepen the armhole on the inner tunic — stiff cloth stacks volume onto shoulders you already have.
- Tall and lean — Drop the sleeve fold slightly wider and keep the tunic long; you have the height to carry the volume.
- Compact — Cut the sleeve fold higher on the arm and shorten the outer to just below the knee.
- Fuller figure — Straight-cut inner tunic, no waist suppression, and keep the embroidery to a narrow centre panel.
What to do next
If this is the shape you want, tell me the occasion and date and I will point you at the right house for it.
Tell me the occasion, the date and your budget bracket. Within 24 hours you get back: two or three houses I would actually approach and why those and not others, the alterations to insist on for your build, a realistic timeline for your date, and a short written brief you can hand to the tailor at the first fitting.
- No fee, no commission, nothing sold here.
- If nobody I trust fits your date or budget, I say so.
- Read by me, answered by me.
