The Rust Ceremonial Agbada
For: Owambe / traditional engagement where you are part of the celebration
Rust is the colour I would take to an owambe before any of the obvious ones. It holds warmth under British light and it does not compete with the family cloth.
- Colour
- Rust
- Cloth
- Mid-weight woven cotton with tonal chest embroidery
- Cut
- Outer to below the knee
- Detail
- Embroidered chest panel, plain sleeves
Indicative UK market range: £700–£1,400
On your frame
- Broad / muscular — Keep the chest panel narrow and the cloth soft, or the embroidery widens you.
- Tall and lean — Take the full sleeve drop — this is the volume your height is built for.
- Compact — Fold the sleeve higher on the arm and hem the outer above the knee.
- Fuller figure — Straight inner tunic, deep side slits, and no waist seam under the robe.
What to do next
01 — The introduction
If this is the shape you want, tell me the occasion and date and I will point you at the right house for it.
Tell me the occasion, the date and your budget bracket. Within 24 hours you get back: two or three houses I would actually approach and why those and not others, the alterations to insist on for your build, a realistic timeline for your date, and a short written brief you can hand to the tailor at the first fitting.
- No fee, no commission, nothing sold here.
- If nobody I trust fits your date or budget, I say so.
- Read by me, answered by me.
02 — If the date is further off
